2.       Science Night

Discussed how science night should be run e.g. should there be an experiment per class?

 

Must have PR for the activity and need someone to organize the dessert for the night.

3.       LHU Board Meeting Update

Lane Travis gave presentation about SAC building possibilities.  Bldg will be approximately $500,000.  Put addition to B building on hold. Will cost 24,000 to have the mold removed from the trailers.

Must ask LHU Board for a Town Hall Meeting to discuss this issue further

5.       Fall Carnival

Motion made to cancel Fall Carnival due to lack of volunteers.

6.       Painless Fundraising

More Harris Teeter VIC cards linked than last year.  Box Top Challenge: Whoever submits the most wins a $25.00 Toys R Us giftcard. Deadline: Dec.1

Continue to encourage parents to link up their cards and save box tops for the Boxtop Challenge.  Will advertise in the newsletter

7.       Citipass Fundraiser

Discussed status of the Citipass fundraiser

Sue stated that 650 books sold, 100 yet to be returned.  Encourage children to return the books.

8.       Membership

Geri Lyn discussed number of members & PFA membership as a whole.

Geri Lyn stated that 136 families & staff are registered.  228 voting members, 35 staff members

9.       Spirit Day

Spirit Day is October 19.  Get children to wear their school shirts

Geri Lyn will create flyer and post

10.   School Pictures

Discussion of how the vendor mixed up the pictures of 200 students, does not know what picture goes with what name.

Make sure that all the children get the correct set of pictures.  Picture retakes will be delayed

11.   Habitat for Sterling

Date: November 4, 2006

Coordinate projects with Melissa Yepez.

Scott will make flyers to be distributed before the event.  Tysha Will put in the newsletter.

12.   Parent emails

Discussion of how to get parent email addresses so that parents can be made informed about activities at the school via email.

Will work to get classroom parents in each class so that information can be disseminated to parents quickly.

13.   PTO Manager

Discussion of how parents find the online volunteer program challenging. What can be done to make it user friendly for all?  Possible solutions: Class for parents or creation of booklet that explains how to register and log in your hours.

 

Is PTO Manager linked to web page?

Natalie Will pick the best possible solution so that more parents will be encouraged to sign up.

 

Tysha will ask the web master.

14.   Sexual Predators

Discussion of sexual predators that live close by.  A threat to our children Security must be increased.  Doors are not locked on campus.

Will ask Rich to download picture and give it to the staff

15.   Resources

Must exhaust in house possibilities for school projects.  Before contracting with an external vendor, see if there is a parent who due to their expertise, can do the job.  

Must develop database of parents who may be a resource.
