Update from the LHU Board
We received a compelling report from our Strategic Planning consultant, who shared some of the information that has been gathered so far and what our next steps will be. This Strategic Planning process will set the vision for the next five years at Sterling.
The Board is actively recruiting community members and parents to apply to the LHU Board, and we encourage members of diverse populations to apply. If you are interested and able to commit the time and energy to supporting Sterling’s mission and vision, please consider applying to the Board.
Another way to be involved in the Board is at the Committee level; please see the LHU calendar for times and dates of upcoming meetings. We have a variety of Committees, including Policy, Technology, Communications, and of course, Strategic Planning. Thanks for considering involvement at the Committee level.

Retakes of Students & Staff for Yearbook
Class Pictures for Middle School & C14
Class photo orders for Middle School & C14 can be placed using the class picture order form by cash or check or online at mylifetouch.com (Picture ID: BW119011G1). Class photos are $12.87. If your student orders a class picture, they need to bring the class picture order form to their teacher even if a payment is made online.
Individual Portrait Packages and Proofs are being sent home next week. If you would like to order a package, please follow the instructions given with your student’s proof. Remember Sterling receives 50% off all Individual Portrait Packages.
Retakes for Individual Pictures will also be on Tuesday, November 5th. If your student was absent for the previous Individual Picture Day or is in need of retakes, please plan to have them done on this day. If a portrait package was purchased, bring this to the photographer on 11/5 for the retake. It is often helpful to include a note for the Lifetouch photographer explaining what changes you’d like made in the retakes.
Ms. Sue Ann sent instructions to all band and chorus students about band and chorus pictures. Please follow her instructions for those pictures, and make sure that your child is wearing the correct clothing and instrument for their picture.
Thank you for supporting Sterling with Picture orders!
Upcoming Author Visit
Author Stephenie Peterson will be presenting to our Lower and Upper Elementary Students on November 22nd. She will read from her latest book, Nellie Nova’s Summer on the Run. She will also talk with the students about her writing process. This is a wonderful opportunity to bring writing to life for our students!
Your family will also have the opportunity to purchase a signed book from the series.
You can find more information about the upcoming Author Visit, including how to purchase an autographed book here.
Celebrating CommUNITY Week
The first week of October we recognized Anti-Bullying Awareness Month by focusing on commUNITY. We did activities at different levels including: the individual classroom, cross-sections, and the whole school.
There were great activities being carried out in the classrooms with some choosing art projects, and others compliment posters or service projects. Many discussions were also happening on topics of kindness, respect, unity and bullying. Several classrooms paired up and did activities together such as community games, origami lessons, or coming together for lunch.
We finished the week by coming together as a whole community working in the gardens. It was such a wonderful sight to see students, parents, and staff working so hard on Garden Day to make our community look and feel beautiful. We are so thankful for the community that we have here at Sterling and we appreciate all the participation in making commUNITY week a success.
Despite commUNITY week having come to an end, we work all year long to encourage kindness and creating a peaceful community in many different ways, and we appreciate the support we receive from families to help make this happen.
