Anti-Bullying Awareness Month and CommUNITY week.
October is Anti-Bullying Awareness month and, as we are committed to reflecting, revisiting, and refreshing our Montessori practices this year, we are reminded that Montessori Philosophy is grounded in kindness and unity. While it is incorporated in everything that we do, we are celebrating the week of September 30th – October 4th to outwardly share these practices that encourage unity and discourages bullying. Students and teachers have been invited to participate in a classroom service initiative that promotes community and kindness. There will be a few school-wide activities and lessons for students to participate in and the week will culminate on Friday, October 4th Garden Day.

The Sterling Farmer’s Market
A message from our middle school students:
The Sterling Farmer’s Market has been selling produce during carpool that we grew ourselves. Thanks for buying the sweet pumpkin muffins and mini-loaves of bread that the middle school students made at school. Thanks for buying the hot peppers, cucumbers, cut flowers, and watermelons, too.
Now the students are deciding how to use $200 of the proceeds for CommUNITY Week. We plan to donate supplies to those in North Carolina hurt by the hurricane. Thanks to all who have had a hand in this including parents who have supported our work financially. Fresh cut flowers will be available this week and look for sweet potato donuts coming soon.
Camp Stingray: Fall Break Camp
There is still time to register for Sterling’s Fall Break Camp. Spaces are limited!

Sterling’s New Logo
This year Sterling Montessori revealed our new, updated logo. A committee of staff, faculty and administration worked with a local design firm to create a fresh symbol of our school community, to be used on our website, marquee and official communications. In short, we were tasked with creating a new brand for Sterling Montessori.
We wanted an image that was easily recognizable, looked to the future while paying homage to the past. We came up with many ideas that we shared with the designer. He then, took our ideas and created several designs. After much deliberation, the open, three-part triangle was chosen. We dropped the color yellow, as it was difficult to see from a distance, and added a blue for contrast.
After presenting the design to the LHU Board, PFA, Students, and Staff and Administration we were asked to incorporate a stingray into the composition. Our designer, Rory, placed the new stingray in the center of the triangles as if it was emerging, and our new logo was born.
The triangle symbolizes our school located in the heart of RTP. The interlocking three triangles represent our interlocking community of Student, Faculty and Parents, as well as Children’s House, Elementary, and Middle School.
Sterling’s Sign to Feature New Logo
With the new logo approved, it is also time to update Sterling’s sign. The current sign has welcomed students and staff to our school since 1997 and within the next few weeks be receiving updates.

Over the past several years, there have been numerous recommendations from staff and the parent community to look into services to ease payment processes at Sterling. We called other Charter schools and Wake County to find out the services they used and all highly recommended MySchoolBucks. Initially when we contracted and began this process in August, the fee was included in the field trip and it was stated under the field trip notification on MSB (*Please Note: Online Processing Fee Built into Price Automatically). Sterling removed the information on the website for a short time while we re-contracted with the company so the processing fee (service fee/transaction) is added at the end of the transaction so that you can see the fee within your purchase. The service fee is what MSB charges for the use of the program and Sterling does not receive any funds from the fee.
MySchoolBucks information can be found on the school’s website and also was sent out in the August 23, 2019 Friday message. Due to the number of questions concerning MySchoolBucks, we wanted to send out this message again.
