Update from the LHU Board: Communications Committee
We have seen a few significant changes in the past couple of months. Since I joined the board in July, we have elected a new President and Vice President, and I have volunteered to chair the Communications Committee. Please join me in welcoming Steve Mansbery as the LHU Board President, and Tisha Shah as our Vice President. I’m looking forward to facilitating communication between the LHU Board and the Sterling community.
In the spirit of open communication, please note that LHU Board meetings are open to the Sterling community; we meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 in room D-4. We also welcome parents and faculty to join committees. One of our big projects right now is creating the new Strategic Plan, which you will continue to hear about in the coming weeks. Information about all of our meetings is kept up to date on the LHU Board calendar.
We are also actively recruiting new board members! Our current needs are finance, development, communications, policy, grant writing, law and business development. If any or all of those criteria describe your expertise, consider attending a board meeting!

Update from the LHU Board: Strategic Planning Committee
The LHU Board and Administrative Team have launched Sterling’s strategic planning process this year. We began with a board retreat to reflect upon Sterling’s vision (what we hope our graduates take with them from their Sterling experiences) and mission (how we provide those experiences for our students). Sterling’s leadership formed a working draft of their collective thoughts about vision and mission, and we would like to hear from our parents about the same.
We are offering two mechanisms for your feedback.
- If you prefer to share your thoughts electronically, a link to the survey is here: 2019 Sterling Montessori Stakeholder Survey
- We are hosting two focus groups to secure feedback in-person. Discussion will center around the same questions asked in the survey. Please join us for one of the following conversations:
Parent Focus Group Meetings
Thursday, September 24th, 8:45 – 9:30 am in Room A10
Thursday, September 24th, 3:45 – 4:30 pm in Room D4
Please RSVP to email@example.com so that we know how many people are coming.
We value your insights and appreciate your willingness to participate either by survey or in person. Your feedback will be collected and shared anonymously with the board and leadership team and informs the remainder of the strategic process.

BOG scores for all 3rd graders were mailed home this week. Please contact Carrie Smith if you do not receive your child’s scores by the end of next week.
September PFA Meeting
Our next PFA meeting will be on Thursday, September 26th at 4:30 PM in D2.
High School Fair for Middle School Families
All middle school students and families are invited to attend the High School Fair coming up on Friday, September 27th from 8:45-9:45 in D2. Come discover local school programs and get your questions answered on all things high school!
We ask that if you are attending, you wait to arrive on campus sometime after 8:45am so that there will be space for everyone to park after morning carpool. Your children will not be marked tardy.
Did You Know?
Did you know that September 21st is International Day of Peace? Each year this day is observed around the world. The United Nations General Assembly declared this day as a day devoted to building peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.
“Our care of the child should be governed, not by the desire to make him learn things, but by the endeavor always to keep burning within him that light which is called intelligence.”
