SUPPORTING THE TRANSITION TO HIGH SCHOOL

Here at Sterling your child has received an excellent education that is grounded in the Philosophy of the Montessori Curriculum.

  • In the Fall the Middle School Team will host a  High School Fair that will provide families with information regarding the high school curriculum, core classes and electives.  Local high school counselors will be invited to share additional information and answer any questions that you may have regarding the transition from middle school to high school.
  • Throughout the school year the school counselor will meet with each eighth grade student to talk about their interests and how that may impact their decision when making high school course selections.  Students will be encouraged to take interest inventories that will guide them towards specific jobs and careers.
  • Most comprehensive high schools hold pre-registration for existing students and eighth grade feeder schools during the months of February and March.  I encourage families to follow the steps for enrollment which will be located on each school’s homepage for pre-registration.
  • School records will be transferred to selected high schools over the summer.  The data manager will only transfer records after they receive an official records transfer from the school in which the parent and student has selected to attend.

Resource:  CFNC (College Foundation of North Carolina): https://www.cfnc.org   Students will find Interest Inventories that will assist them in identifying specific career clusters.  It also has a lot of other good information that might be helpful throughout their high school career.
